In a months long CBS News investigation, state-by-state results of tests for H1N1 found that most cases were negative. The Wall Street Journal's Alicia Mundy and Politico's Fred Barbash spoke with Sharyl Attkisson about these startling findings.

&#60;p&#62;Here's a summary of it...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
A new class of global actors is playing an increasingly important role in globalization: smugglers, warlords, guerrillas, terrorists, gangs, and bandits of all stripes. Since the end of the Cold War, the global illicit economy has consistently grown at twice the rate of the licit global economy. Increasingly, illicit actors will represent not just an economic but a political force. As globalization hollows out traditional nation-states, what will fill the power vacuum in slums and hinterlands will be informal non-state governance structures. These zones will be globally connected, effectively run by local gangs, religious leaders, or quasi-tribal organizations – organizations that will govern without aspiring to statehood.

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
A noted geologist who coauthored the New York Times bestseller Sugar Busters has turned his attention to convincing Congress that carbon dioxide emissions are good for the Earth and don't cause global warming. Leighton Steward is on Capitol Hill this week armed with studies and his book Fire, Ice and Paradise in a bid to show senators working on the energy bill that the carbon dioxide cap-and-trade scheme could actually hurt the environment by reducing CO2 levels.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#34;I'm trying to kill the whole thing,&#34; he says. &#34;We are tilting at windmills.&#34; He is meeting with several GOP lawmakers and has plans to meet with some Democrats later this week.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Much of the global warming debate has focused on reducing CO2 emissions because it is thought that the greenhouse gas produced mostly from fossil fuels is warming the planet. But Steward, who once believed CO2 caused global warming, is trying to fight that with a mountain of studies and scientific evidence that suggest CO2 is not the cause for warming. What's more, he says CO2 levels are so low that more, not less, is needed to sustain and expand plant growth.

The 'Internet Eyes' service involves players scouring thousands of CCTV cameras installed in shops, businesses and town centres across Britain looking for law-breakers.&#60;br /&#62;
Players who help catch the most criminals each month will win cash prizes up to £1,000.

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
In what may be a real eye opener for many viewers, Leung totally debunks HIV testing. (Can you say &#34;manufacturer’s criteria&#34;?) But who needs faulty HIV testing when the World Health Organization (WHO) has given us the Bangui definition for AIDS which provides a simple list of symptoms to using for diagnosing AIDS without testing? Though moderated nine years later with the admonition that testing should really be done, it did a wonderful job of kick-starting the supposed AIDS epidemic in Africa.&#60;/p&#62;

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Even dogs cannot escape the surveillance state. Under plans to be put forward by both Labour and the Conservatives at the next election, all dogs will have to be fitted with a microchip with their owner’s name, address and phone number.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In addition, a national database will hold details of all dogs in the country, including their breed, age and health. Owners who fail to insert a microchip containing a unique barcode will face a fine and possibly the right to keep their dog.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;/blockquote&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Andrew Rosindell MP, the Conservative animal welfare spokesman, said he thought microchipping would stop Britain’s pounds overflowing with strays and help identify irresponsible owners.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The Conservative council in Wandsworth, south London, has already made it compulsory for council tenants with dogs to microchip their animals and log details on a database.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Rosindell, MP for Romford, Essex, said microchips also helped to cut crime. “If a dog that has been involved in fighting or bad behaviour has been microchipped, it will help the police find who the owner is,” he said.

<description>&#60;p&#62;In the US:&#60;br /&#62;

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Both bank credit and the M3 money supply in the United States have been contracting at rates comparable to the onset of the Great Depression since early summer, raising fears of a double-dip recession in 2010 and a slide into debt-deflation. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Professor Tim Congdon from International Monetary Research said US bank loans have fallen at an annual pace of almost 14pc in the three months to August (from $7,147bn to $6,886bn). &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#34;There has been nothing like this in the USA since the 1930s,&#34; he said. &#34;The rapid destruction of money balances is madness.&#34;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;/blockquote&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In Europe:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/fce8b1b0-a091-11de-b9ef-00144feabdc0.html&#34;&#62;Lending in Europe continues to shrink&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;The credit crunch in Europe worsened over the summer as corporate bond finance issuance failed to plug the gap left by a sharp contraction of bank lending.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Net lending by banks went further into negative territory in July as companies paid back more loans than they took out new ones. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Loans outstanding contracted by a net €25bn ($36bn) in the month, the fifth successive month of an increasing shrinkage of supply.

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Germany's finance minister has called for a global tax to be imposed on financial transactions in a bid to end what he derided as &#34;binge-drinking&#34; on markets.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;/blockquote&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/4088&#34;&#62;Global Tax Thuggery&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
A meeting was held in Mexico City last week under the auspices of the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), whose implicit goal is to create a global high-tax cartel. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It claims to be in favor of &#34;transparency&#34; and &#34;global economic growth.&#34; However, as with many domestic and international government organizations, the OECD's actions are often contrary to its words. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In order to create a global tax cartel, the OECD needs to have tax information shared among nations -- which means that the citizen of any country that signs on to this scheme may have his or her tax information shared with other member jurisdictions.

... a 10 year old New York girl has been fined $50 for operating a lemonade stand without a license.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Clementine Lee set up a lemonade stand in Riverside Park, New York Saturday as a way to raise some pocket money, but that was before not one, but three city officials pounced on her illegal operation.&#60;br /&#62;
...&#60;br /&#62;
For the record, Clementine had managed to sell $19 worth of lemonade before being slapped with the $50 fine.

<title>charles on "Is Cap-and-Trade Trying to Create a Food Shortage?"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;Some of the things in the Cap-and-Trade plan in the US calls for looks like they’re trying to create a food shortage. Look at this…. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
WASHINGTON — New forests would spread across the American landscape, &#60;strong&#62;replacing both pasture and farm fields&#60;/strong&#62;, under a congressional plan to confront climate change, an Environmental Protection Agency analysis shows.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;About 18 million acres of new trees — roughly the size of West Virginia — would be planted by 2020, according to an EPA analysis of a climate bill passed by the House of Representatives in June.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;That’s because &#38;lt;b&#38;gt;the House bill gives financial incentives to farmers and ranchers to plant trees, which suck in large amounts of the key global-warming gas: carbon dioxide.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;[…]&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;strong&#62;The plan would, however, be hard on ranchers and farmers and potentially food prices&#60;/strong&#62;, says American Farm Bureau chief economist Bob Young.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In the Senate, which is likely to consider a similar bill this fall, &#38;lt;b&#38;gt;there are some who worry the loss of farmland would lead to increases in food prices worse than those seen in mid-2007, when costs spiked 7% to 8% above 2006 levels.
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;/blockquote&#62;
&#60;p&#62;(Emphasis mine.)&#60;/p&#62;

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Children under 18 will be banned from watching films that depict characters smoking under plans being considered by council ‘thought police’. An 18 certificate – usually reserved for movies with violent and sexual content – will be slapped on any film featuring smokers that fails to explain cigarettes are bad for you.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Such titles include Disney’s classic 101 Dalmatians cartoon, in which the evil Cruella de Vil waves a cigarette holder. The ban will target new releases, but could affect older films such as 101 Dalmatians and Disney’s Peter Pan, the Little Mermaid and Pinnocchio if they are reissued and reclassified. Casablanca, Titanic and Lord of the Rings would be restricted to adults under the plans proposed for Liverpool.

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
The end may be in sight for Canada's recession, but it will have to &#34;crawl out of a deeper hole&#34;than anybody expected, economists said Friday,&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;In May alone -- less than two months before the Bank of Canada declared the recession all but over -- the economy was in deep decline, as key industries like energy and manufacturing continued to contract, Statistics Canada said Friday.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The economy retreated by 0.5% in May -- a bigger slide than in any of the previous three months, and extending the economic downturn to 10 straight months, the federal agency said.

<title>charles on "Vancouver Sun: Global warming is the new religion of First World urban elites"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;I'm surprised to see this in the Vancouver Sun.  Not because I disagree with it.  (I don't disagree.  I've actually suspected something similar.)  But because the Vancouver Sun's articles don't seem to usually reflect the application of critical thinking.  (I'm glad to see this though.  Maybe they'll do more.)  From the article...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
Ian Plimer has outraged the ayatollahs of purist environmentalism...&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Plimer is a geologist, professor of mining geology at Adelaide University, and he may well be Australia's best-known and most notorious academic.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Plimer, you see, is an unremitting critic of &#34;anthropogenic global warming&#34; -- man-made climate change to you and me -- and the current environmental orthodoxy that if we change our polluting ways, global warming can be reversed.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It is, of course, not new to have a highly qualified scientist saying that global warming is an entirely natural phenomenon with many precedents in history. Many have made the argument, too, that it is rubbish to contend human behaviour is causing the current climate change. And it has often been well argued that it is totally ridiculous to suppose that changes in human behaviour -- cleaning up our act through expensive slight-of-hand taxation tricks -- can reverse the trend.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;But most of these scientific and academic voices have fallen silent in the face of environmental Jacobinism. Purging humankind of its supposed sins of environmental degradation has become a religion with a fanatical and often intolerant priesthood, especially among the First World urban elites.

&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
THE Pentagon's enthusiasm for non-lethal crowd-control weapons appears to have stepped up a gear with its decision to develop a microwave pain-infliction system that can be fired from an aircraft.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The device is an extension of its controversial Active Denial System, which uses microwaves to heat the surface of the skin, creating a painful sensation without burning that strongly motivates the target to flee. The ADS was unveiled in 2001, but it has not been deployed owing to legal issues and safety fears.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Nevertheless, the Pentagon's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD) in Quantico, Virginia, has now called for it to be upgraded. The US air force, whose radar technology the ADS is based on, is increasing its annual funding of the system from $2 million to $10 million.&#60;/p&#62;

&#60;strong&#62;Unwarranted Joy In Canada&#60;/strong&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The recession may technically be over soon in both Canada and the US but it will not feel like it to most, nor will Canada see those projected rates of growth.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Expect to see downward revisions to expected growth because they are coming. Weak energy demand is one of the clues that the rebound will be less than most anticipate.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Nearly everyone is overestimating the rebound in jobs and consumer spending while ignoring or discounting the likelihood of a double dip recession, not just in the US, but globally. Odds still favor a harsh double dip recession, or a lingering L-shaped recession sapped by higher taxes and weak consumer demand, where the economy flirts with recession for years to come.&#60;/p&#62;
